DSTRCT.Berlin has been WELL pre-certified

Published

The new office building of DSTRCT.Berlin by HB Reavis is one of only three buildings in Berlin that achieved the WELL Pre-Certification at Gold level. The proposed space qualities met the high expectations of wellbeing and productivity.

DSTRCT.Berlin, the Germany development by international workspace provider HB Reavis, is not only moving at a quick pace in construction but is also on its path to certifications.
The project of the new building office had recently received WiredScore Platinum certification, which assesses building connectivity, and now it has also been awarded with WELL Pre-Certification at Gold level.
Obtaining Pre-Certification is difficult and important because it signals not only ambition but also multiple arrangements and precautions taken in order to deliver workspaces that are people-centric with focus on health, wellbeing and overall productivity.
The next step is planned for 2021 when an independent assessor will come on-site to ensure that the project complies with WELL’s requirements in order to obtain full WELL certification.
The WELL certification looks at seven criteria: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Comfort and Mind. DSTCRT.Berlin aspires to comprise all of them with a particular focus on movement and air.

Active movement in the office

Supporting healthy physical activities will be translated into multiple solutions that the building will yield. One of them is a welcoming, internal staircase connecting multi-floor tenants, recognised as innovation. Stairs are highly visible for office staff and visitors as they are located next to coffee points.
Signage next to the lifts will encourage people to use stairs as an active alternative. Their location between the façade and the courtyard will reward movement with a view of the wider interior and outsides.

Underground, the cycle garage aspires to become the cyclist hub offering not only space for approximately 800 bikes and maintenance space but also a dedicated parking section for e-bikes and charging stations.
Inside, the changing rooms equipped with lockers and showers will sustain the need for a before/after work change of role. Bike enthusiasts can use a dedicated ramp for easy access directly from Otto-Ostrowski Street.

Air optimisation

Air is an essential aspect of people’s wellbeing and productivity at work. Thus, HB Reavis puts a great emphasis on delivering high-quality air and volume of supplied air per person per hour higher than the European Standard.
The building with openable windows will be equipped with Symbiosy, HB Reavis’ tech and sensory platform, which uses sensors to measure and monitor the indoor conditions and optimise air in real-time, as well as the high-power filtration system empowered with ionization.
